Five Things I am Loving Now

1. Alpine Meadow scented Acquiesse Portfolio Collection Candle, described as "a mix of dewy grass, wild fruit, alpine floral, mountain pepper, balsam fir, wood and light musk."

Available from Candle Delerium, $10-$50

2. Tomato, Mozzarella and Basil Salad with fresh tomato and basil from the garden!

3. Project Gadabout, a "guide to living a whimsical, flamboyant, sophisticated, slightly irrelevant and dashing way of life." Visit Project Gadabout to learn how to make fun cocktails, like a Pink Lady, Lime Rickey, Lemon Chiffon Pie and Cinnamon Toast. Written by Poppy Harlow Darlington (Isn't that a great pen name!), Project Gadabout covers everything from fashion tips to how to survive the 9-5 blues.

4. Blair Eadie features photos of her incredible ensembles and sense of style on Atlantic- Pacific. Loving her creative layering, fearless use of color and stacked bracelets! The East Coast native moved to San Francisco last year (hence, the name Atlantic-Pacific) and is a fashion merchandiser for Gap by day. You may recognize her growing reputation in the fashion world- She was recently in the September issue Vogue as a Fashion Influencer and won of Polyvore's Most-Coveted Closet  blogger award.

5. Fresh Lavender's soothing scent is said to bring about relaxation and sleep. It also can be used to heal insect bites and relieve headaches. It's also used in cooking as a cake decoration, in herbal tea and scones.

Thought for the Day: Om Mani Padme Hum

Not just the Thought for the Day, but the Thought for Every Day:
Om Mani Padme Hum

In Heart Treasure of the Enlightened Ones, Gen Rinproche says:

The mantra Om Mani Pädme Hum is easy to say yet quite powerful, because it contains the essence of the entire teaching. When you say the first syllable Om it is blessed to help you achieve perfection in the practice of generosity, Ma helps perfect the practice of pure ethics, and Ni helps achieve perfection in the practice of tolerance and patience. Päd, the fourth syllable, helps to achieve perfection of perseverance, Me helps achieve perfection in the practice of concentration, and the final sixth syllable Hum helps achieve perfection in the practice of wisdom.

Om-  Generosity
Ma-  Ethics
Ni- Tolerance and patience
Pad-  Perseverance
Me-  Concentration
Hum-  Wisdom

Sweet, Juicy and Colorful

You may remember my post from earlier this year professing my love for berries, so I was disappointed that blueberries were absent from this month's Whole Living cover story on super foods.

Brain Freeze

Ice cream is one of my all-time favorite summer treats...Okay, so it's not just a summer treat. But somehow eating it in the summer makes me feel a little less guilty about the calorie and fat splurge.

After begging for weeks, the Sailor finally made me my favorite kind of ice cream -- Mint Chip!

Adirondack Museum Excursion

Last weekend, the Sailor and I packed a picnic and took a drive to the Adirondack Museum in Blue Mountain Lake. Visiting the museum is something the Sailor has wanted to do for a long time, but it never seemed worth it to "waste" a beautiful summer day cooped up in a museum. That was far from the reality though!
