The Erlowest Experience

The Sailor and I spent this past weekend at the Inn at Erlowest, a stone castle on the shores of Lake George. Built in 1898 by a prominent attorney and politician from Brooklyn, the mansion has been lovingly restored by new owners in recent years.

Heavy wooden antique furniture, richly patterned wallpaper, and glowing fireplaces give the Inn a romantic ambiance. The Inn also holds special memories for us because we held our wedding rehearsal dinner there.

The winter view looking over the lake was spectacular...even though I much prefer the glimmering water and boat traffic of the summer.

The outdoor fireplace adjacent to the Inn's bar is a gathering place for guests to sip hot toddies and smoke cigars in the evenings.

Here's the fireplace in our room. And, believe me, we needed it as the temperature outside dropped to the single digits -- even without the windchill factor. C'mon summer!

The bed was just as comfy as it looks!  See more photos of the room

The Inn at Erlowest is also known for its cuisine, recognized multiple times as a Four Diamond restaurant. Its website promises, "Chef and his staff will create a gastronomic experience that you will not soon forget."

So true! The menu includes an eclectic assortment of seasonal, often local ingredients.  Everything we ate was divine!

Amuse bouche: Eggplant fritter with a cucumber dill dipping sauce
Soup: Mushroom soup topped with a bit of asparagus and onion
Entree: Beef Wellington served with a foie gras ravioli, sauteed spinach and mashed potatoes
Dessert: Capuccino creme brulee with fresh blackberries

Our mini-vacation was the perfect pick-me-up as we enter the final countdown to long lazy summer days on the lake and lots of sunshine (oh please God soon!).
