Happy Birthday Elvis!

It's no secret that I love Elvis. Well, maybe not as much as Jon Bon Jovi, Neil Diamond or Keith Richards, but in any case, he holds a special place in my heart saved for rockstar crushes. I remember watching Elvis and Me, a B-movie version of the book, a less than flattering portrayal, as told by Prescilla. Despite the infamous stories of his prescription drug addiction, promiscuity and other problems, he remains the King in my book.

Ten Facts about Elvis:
(1) He has sold more than one billion records globally- more than any other artist.
(2) Elvis' parents bought him a guitar for his 11th birthday.
(3) Elvis and Prescilla married at the Aladdin Hotel in Vegas on May 1, 1967.
(4) Elvis had a jet named Lisa Marie.
(5) The Elvis stamp was released by the US Postal Service in 1993. It's the top-selling commemorative stamp of all time.
(6) Graceland is the second most-visited home in the US, after the White House.
(7) Presley was nominated for 14 Grammys and won three- for his gospel recordings.
(8) Elvis was a black belt in karate.
(9) Elvis was a direct descendent of Abraham Lincoln's great-great grandfather and a distant cousin of Jimmy Carter.
(10) Elvis performed only five concerts outside of the US, all in Canada.

One of my favorite wedding photos!
We got married on the weekend that Elvis impersonators descend on Lake George...

"Saying that Elvis is an icon doesn’t quite cut it.  There’s really never been anyone else who’s come along since that could fill his mammoth shoes in terms of talent, looks, style, presence and star power– and likely never will be.  Don’t even think the words “Michael Jackson”, no way. Not.  Even.  Close." The Selvedge Yard
