Weekend Getaway: CIA Part I
Last month, the Sailor and I went to Hyde Park for a visit to the renowned Culinary Institute of America (CIA). The Sailor enrolled in Bistros and Brasseries, one of the many daylong classes offered at the CIA, where he honed his cooking skills. I'll never understand why French Women Don't Get Fat, given their diet of delicacies made of fresh cream, lard, eggs, butter, last but not least, my favorites--cheese, wine and pain au chocolat. Joie de vivre!

Happy National Peanut Butter Day
Breakfast was extra special today because it's a national holiday celebrating one of my very favorite foods. Every morning, I start my day with an english muffin and peanut butter. The true breakfast of champions or at least comfort food to beat a case of the Mondays. Or Tuesdays. Or Wednesdays.....You get the idea.
Another love-- chocolate and peanut butter...pure perfection that reminds me of childhood. Reese's pieces, better known as "E.T. Candies."
Have a great week!

Mirror, mirror on the wall
Groupon recently started offering deals in the Capital District. And, while I really have exercised a lot of restraint (i.e. I didn't sign up for the 8 car washes for $30 yesterday), I do succumb to the occasional emails. The deal that sucked me in last week was a 50% off facial at Rumors Spa and Salon -- I usually don't even like facials, but sometimes most of the time, I just can't pass up a deal.

Winter Wonderland
Wish I could look like this when we're spending the weekend in the Adirondacks! Amanda Brooks has amazing style, as featured in December's's Vogue. Check out the Buffalo print plaid. Love it!

Happy Birthday Elvis!
It's no secret that I love Elvis. Well, maybe not as much as Jon Bon Jovi, Neil Diamond or Keith Richards, but in any case, he holds a special place in my heart saved for rockstar crushes. I remember watching Elvis and Me, a B-movie version of the book, a less than flattering portrayal, as told by Prescilla. Despite the infamous stories of his prescription drug addiction, promiscuity and other problems, he remains the King in my book.

Hopeless Romantic
Someday, when we're old and gray, I can only hope that the Sailor looks at me like this:
"There would be no point in saying that she looked to me more beautiful than she did on our wedding day, but because I have grown older and have, I think, a greater depth of feeling, and because I could see in her face that night both youth and age, both her devotion to the young woman that she had been and the positions that she had yielded graciously to time, I think I have never been so deeply moved." Rabbit Rabbit
I will seek elegance rather than luxury, refinement rather than fashion. I will seek to be worthy more than respectable, wealthy and not rich. I will study hard, think quietly, talk gently, and act frankly. I will listen to stars and birds, babes and sages, with an open heart. I will bear all things cheerfully, do all things bravely await occasions and hurry never. In a word I will let the spiritual, unbidden and unconscious grow up through the common.
-William Ellery Channing
Best wishes for happiness in 2011!
