Think Pink

One in eight women will get breast cancer during her lifetime. That's me, you, your mom, your sister, your aunt, your friend, your co-worker or your neighbor.

200,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer and 40,000 women die from breast cancer each year. On average, one woman dies from breast cancer every 13 minutes in the U.S.

In October 1993, Evelyn Lauder, founder of Estee Lauder, started the Breast Cancer Research Foundation and adopted the pink ribbon as the symbol for the cause. Since then, many companies around the world have joined in the effort by donating a portion of proceeds from pink merchandise to raise money for research related to the prevention, early detection and cure of breast cancer.

There's nothing like shopping for a cause! So, I've gathered a few of my favorite pink items that benefit breast cancer awareness and included information about where to purchase them.

“When you do nothing, you feel overwhelmed and powerless. But when you get involved, you feel the sense of hope and accomplishment that comes from knowing you are working to make things better.” Maya Angelou

For those that are REALLY looking to make a difference, visit Ralph Lauren's Pink Pony Auction at Charitybuzz. Place a bid to spend a weekend at Ralph Lauren's villa in Jamaica for $50,000. If that doesn't fit into the vacation budget, escape to Donna Karan's hideaway in Turks and Caicos for only $12,500.

Not a travel bug? There are other options. Bid on a brush with celebrities- ride with Lance, golf with Tom Watson or meet Vogue editor Anna Wintour.
